CONSTRUCTION UPDATE {October 28, 2014}:

Construction of park improvements to the Ranger Julie Schweikert Nature Center and Park Store are almost 100% complete. Please enjoy the new improvements including a “New Fishing Cleaning Station” located in the Boat Launch Area and a renovated Trailer Storage Lot! Check with the Park Manager for Rates and Contracts. The Park Store will remain open through the first weekend in November, closing for the season on Monday, November 3, 2015.

Currently there is a Construction Renovation Project in progress at the Campground Bathhouse “B”. The entire building is being renovated and updated. B Camp Loop remains Open for the season, but several sites adjacent to the construction site are closed. Campers may experience construction site activity and noise in the area Monday through Saturday. B Loop Campers may use either the Bathhouse in “C” or “A” loops. Please plan your site selection reservation accordingly.

The Full Service Cabins that have been closed beginning December 1, 2014 are NOW OPEN! The Construction Project has been moved to the coming Fall/Winter Season to best meet needs of our visiting public and park scheduling. The new dates for Closure are beginning: Tuesday, September 8, 2015 and ending during the spring of 2016. Please enjoy the 2015 Season and make your reservations now!

B-Loop Restroom Renovation Information:

October 15, 2014 thru April 30, 2015, only A-Loop and C-Loop bathhouses are open. B-Loop bathhouse will be closed for renovation. B-Loop campsites 13 thru 18 closest to bathhouse may be affected by construction.

SWIMMING:

The unguarded beaches of Janes Island offer visitors the opportunity to swim in the waters of the Chesapeake, but only at their own risk. Swimming is only allowed on Tangier Sound Side Beaches of the Island and area is accessible only by boat. Must provide your own boat; or kayak/canoe rentals are available at the Park during peak season. No swimming from the mainland park shoreline.

No Pets Allowed.

PET POLICY:

  • Pets allowed in day-use area, on trails and on island.
  • Pets allowed in marina area to board vessels.
  • Pets allowed in campground Loop A and parking lot.
  • Pets allowed at sites 1 through 13 and sites 23 through 40 in campground Loop B and in adjacent pet walking area.
  • Pets not permitted within campground Loop C.

    GENERAL INFORMATION:
    Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring/grill, picnic table and lantern post.

    ALCOHOL POLICY:

    The consumption or possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage will be prohibited in all state park areas with the exception of interior areas of full-service cabins and motorhomes.

    CHECK-IN:

  • 3:00 PM.
  • During peak season check-in takes place at the park store. If arriving after park store is closed or automatic gate is closed, follow after hours camper arrival instructions to gain admission. Instructions are posted at the automatic gate key pad and at the park headquarters.
  • No one is permitted to check in after 10:30 pm.
  • Reduced park store hours between October 31 thru November 24; and March 28, 2014 thru April 24, 2014.
  • Camper check-in packets available at park headquarters.
  • GOLDEN AGE PASS:
    Persons 62 years of age and older with MD Park Service Golden Age Pass are entitled to discounted camping Sunday-Thursday, excluding Holidays. Display of Golden Age Pass will be required upon check-in. Golden Age Pass holder must be the occupant on the site. Additional service charges will be applied if unable to provide proof of valid pass. Golden Age Pass requires a $10 fee.     YOUTH GROUPS:
    Sites 94,96,98,100,102 within C-Loop are available for Youth Groups. Youth Group Pass will be honored. Contact the park office at 410-968-1565 for reservation.

    GENERATORS :
    Generators are permitted, but all aspects of their use & operation must conform to the established quiet hours & all applicable safeguards designed to prevent disturbing other visitors and to preserve the peace & tranquility of the park environment.

    FIREWOOD RESTRICTION:
    Due to the potential threat of the Emerald Ash Borer, the Maryland Department Natural Resources has prohibited the importation of personal firewood into all DNR owned and managed properties. Please do not bring firewood with you from home when visiting a DNR property.

    INSECT NUISANCE:
    Insects may be a nuisance at certain times of the year. Gnats, biting flies, mosquitoes, and ticks may be a problem during the spring, summer and fall. The park is located in a forest environment which could result in a problem with wood roaches, crickets, and mice.

    TRASH FREE:
    All trash must be packed out of your site. Reduce/Reuse/Recycle. Dumpsters are available in the campground for camper's trash.

    QUIET HOURS:
    Quiet time will be maintained in the campground from10:00 pm to 7:00 am.

    MINIMUM STAY:
    There is a two night minimum weekend stay (Friday/Saturday) and a three night minimum holiday weekend stay (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

    Prices are subject to change without notice and reservation fees, as well as cancellation fees are non-refundable.
