Important Message - 2015 Reservations:
The timeline for the Assateague State Park Dune Realignment Project has recently been updated. Due to delays in environmental review and subsequent project planning, the project has been temporarily placed on hold and a new date will be released as the process continues.
Current campground configuration will exist for the 2015 camping season with all loops remaining the same. Beginning October 20th, inventory for the 2015 camping season will be available through Call Center and Online as follows:

8:00 am, November 10, 2014:
Use of the online reservation system http://reservations.dnr.state.md.us is recommended, however, Maryland Reservation Call Center will also be available at 1-888-432-2267. The window for your reservation is determined by the start date of your reservation. Reservations that cross over from one date range to the next will have to be made as separate reservations during each appropriate time.
The Dune Realignment Project will be undertaken in an effort to reduce future storm impacts to the State Park developed portion of Assateague Island. This will include relocating the southern portion of the dune approximately 115 feet to the west. The new alignment will result in the re-numbering of campsites and re-routing of campground roads. The project will also include installation of clay crossovers, fencing and dune grass plantings upon completion of the realignment. Once a final map is completed, a link will be made available to show the new numbering system and site locations.
We appreciate your patience as we undertake this significant project. Assateague Island is a dynamic system and as a barrier island, always on the move. The Maryland Park Service is working to protect the resources of the island while still providing the best access to the park for our visitors to enjoy. We look forward to having you visit us and see these improvements in the years to come!
